Regular Show, or "Pirate Radio"
Live, or Pre-recorded - Your Choice!
If you can't commit to a regular weekly time slot, we offer
two alternatives:
One is something we call "Pirate Radio." You can now
join the team and broadcast any time of the day or night outside of the
regular show schedule on a first-come, first-served basis. You may also want
to fill in when the host of one of the regular shows needs a substitute DJ.
You will be a DLBN broadcaster in every way except you'd have no regular
weekly show.
The other way is to pre-record your show. It can then be
added to our On-Demand Archives and/or scheduled to be played at a
designated time by our automated feed.
How does The Dividing Line differ from other broadcaster services like
Live365?
There are many advantages to broadcasting with The Dividing
Line:
-
The Dividing Line is a true Internet Radio Station, not a
hosting service whose sole purpose is selling server space and bandwidth
for streaming audio.
-
Here, you join a team and become part of a community, and
you benefit from the combined efforts of everyone associated with the
station.
-
We only broadcast one audio feed at a time so you're
not competing with hundreds of other broadcasters. When you're on, you're
on!
-
Your show information is added to the schedule and you get a
feature page on the web site.
-
We broadcast in stereo. To do that on the other services you
have to either pay more, or cut back on your allotted time.
-
You can broadcast live, or pre-record your show.
-
Choose a regular weekly time slot, or "Pirate" whenever you
want (as long as it's outside of the other shows' regular time slots).
-
Your show is promoted by clips you make
being inserted into the automated feed, and the other DJ's may also play them or mention
your show on the air during their shows.
-
Play anything you want as often as you want. As long as it
is legal and not in bad taste, there are few restrictions.
-
The Dividing Line has its own dedicated chat server. Again,
you're not competing with other broadcasters. All listeners tune in to the
same show and chat in the same chat room.
-
Use the station's clout to gain access to artists for
interviews and other special programs.
These are just a few examples of the advantages of
broadcasting with The Dividing Line.
OK, enough talk - let's get started!
To apply, there are only a few simple steps. You can begin by completing
the form below. But first, the following information will give you an idea
of what you will need.
1. SHOW CONCEPT
The first thing you need to do is establish a theme or specialty that will
make your show unique. Think about what you can bring to the table that
isn't already being done on existing DLBN shows. Be creative!
2. HARDWARE & SOFTWARE
Your computer and Internet connection must be fast enough to
upload the live audio stream to the server. High speed cable, DSL, or
equivalent is required. You need the broadcasting software. PC
users use Winamp with an OGG VORBIS plug-in. MAC users use Real
Producer or Helix Producer. Of course you need a microphone,
and headphones are recommended so you don't risk feedback through your
speakers. It is recommended that you have the mIRC chat program. You will also need to be able to transfer files via FTP
in order to upload your show archives and promo clips, etc.. We
can help you find and configure all the necessary software.
3. SUBMIT A DEMO
Once your show idea has been approved, it’s time to record a full length
audition of your proposed show. We will provide you with
instructions and technical support for making and uploading your demo. We will listen
to it and let you know whether or not we think your show is suitable for The
Dividing Line. The reason we ask for this is so we can be sure you are
comfortable in the broadcasting environment and that you can get through a
full show without technical difficulties. We also want to be sure your
content falls within the Progressive Rock genre, which is the main format of
The Dividing Line. Do as many takes as necessary
until you feel it is the best you can do.
4. READ AND ACCEPT THE TERMS OF THE
BROADCASTERS' MANUAL
Once you have successfully completed the first three steps described above,
we will direct you to our Broadcasters' Manual and ask you to read it and
acknowledge your acceptance of the terms therein. We have created a manual
that explains everything DJ's need to know about broadcasting on The
Dividing Line. Once you’ve read and agreed to everything, you’re good to go!
You’ve enjoyed being a part of the audience, now we’re inviting you up on
the stage to join us, and there are perks too. The Dividing Line’s name is
getting bigger and bigger in the industry, so once you have an established
show, you can contact your favorite artists for interviews using the backing
of the DLBN name! You can contribute directly to the continued success of
this station!
