<title>Soundscape</title>
<link>http://www.thedividingline.com/podcasts/soundscape/</link>
<description> Hello fellow travelers of the sonic realm! I am to be your DJ for what I hope is a fine excursion into the soundscapes of music. I have been an explorer of the aural realm for pretty much my entire life. That journey started with stealing 45s from my parents and over playing &quot; The Red Baron&quot; and the backwards masked version of Napoleon IVs &quot; They're coming to take me away Ha-Ha&quot; incessantly (I can pretty much quote the entire thing backwards). Since that time I have done my high school stint in the caverns of classic rock, spent my college years as a dj of bluegrass and folk, and followed the Grateful Dead around when I could. I got my masters degree in in psychology with an emphasis on music and Buddhist psychology, joined the retail work force as the music manager of a big chain store, and now I look forward to creating my own music store in the near future. Through all this music has been my rosetta stone and my guiding light. Now that I am joining this fine team of progressive fanatics I hope to offer a journey into sound. I hope to turn you the listener on to something new, and I hope to hear from others what they are listening to.

I tend to define progressive music very openly. You will of course hear old favorites such as Genesis and Yes, as well as the new masters of Prog: Spocks Beard, Porcupine Tree, and Marillion, but you will also hear forays into the jam band world and an eclectic mix of other music genres. I am always searching for the newest sounds, that which breaks new ground, or stomps on old ground with new patterns. During one part of my show I will hip you to the newest music in my world, that which I believe deserves some credit. On the second part of our adventures I will try to follow a theme within the music. Some recent examples are songs about robots, travel, and dreaming. Sometimes I will simply showcase the work of an artist that I feel deserves some attention. In the past I have given some time to the music of Steve Hillage and John Wetton. Through it all I look to my listeners to help me define where we are going and what we will see, but I promise we will have sonic adventures and discover why we all love music so much in the first place.</description>

<title>Soundscape #116 The Angst of Herman Hesse</title>
<itunes:subtitle>Themes: Music inspired by Herman Hesse and Teen Angst</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>I am not absolutely sure that Herman Hesse had any kind of angst. Nevertheless this show looks at music inspired by his works. Sadly for this author, I was unable to find a lot of progressive music. However, Hesse is an amazing writer and deserves full credit for his enterprising story lines and philosophical dialogue.
The second piece of the puzzle emerges out of my new job; which is working with abused teens. Many themes emerge out of the situations that I find myself in on a daily basis, this theme was no different.
Also look out for new music from Pat Mastoloto's &quot;Tuner&quot; and Argentinian soundscapers Hyacintus. It was an enjoyable ride and I hope you all have a good time listening.

Esquivel- Sentimental Journey
Abigail's Ghost- Mazurka
Abigail's Ghost- Close
RPWL- Silenced
Osada Vida- Tongue (A White Lie)
George Carlin- Keeping People Alert (RIP George)

Hyacintus- Hipno Delfico
Gov't Mule- About to Rage

Genesis- Back in N.Y.C.
Marillion- Goodbye to All That/Wave/Mad/The Opium Den
Rush- Subdivisions
Porcupine Tree- Fear of a Blank Planet

<title>Soundscape #114 Choose Your Own Theme</title>
<itunes:subtitle>Following themes suggested by the audience and our own spontaneity</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Hello music fans! Another show out of the loop due to the new job schedule, but still a great show. We debuted songs from the new Jeavestone, Pyramaze, and Mostly Autumn, Steve Winwood, and Mudcrutch. The theme was spontaneously generated from conversations in the chatroom, and discussions between Suzi and myself. As a result this is a pretty eclectic mix of sounds. We also grabbed a few of Rolling Stones top rated guitar songs and threw a set together.
Next week, Soundscape will return to its original time slot. The new job has kept me a bit out of sorts for theming, but I am still working on an Italian Prog show for the near future. Next week we will follow the Gypsies. Our theme will be about Gypsies and Travelers and we will talk about the origins of such labels. Do not be alarmed, actual educational information will be negligible compared to the plethora of musical territory we will cover. Until then, stay groovy soundscapers!!
