The Bishie is all knowing and all powahful!  Bow before his omnipotence!!

David "Winkler" James

Broadcast every Tuesday
from 5:00PM to 7:00PM Pacific Time

David James, a.k.a. Winkler literally grew up with progressive music, consuming a hefty dose of the Beatles in the 60s, and being particularly attracted to the wildly creative period of Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour. When Prog-Proper (1st King Crimson, ELP, etc.) first hit the airwaves, Winkler was non-plussed for a minute, but just for a minute. Then it hit him like a ton of bricks. He just couldn't get enough! In fact, he didn't get enough, because just when progressive rock was starting to get really, really good (Genesis Lamb, King Crimson's Red, etc.), progressive rock began to go into virtual remission, while punk and new wave music began to dominate the music scene in the latter half of the 1970s. Great progressive rock albums came out at an ever-slower pace in the late 70s, slowing to a rate of what seemed like not much more than one per year by the early 80s, and life was bad. Very bad. In the 1990s, life got better, as Dave experienced a personal revival of interest in progressive rock through the wonders of the internet. The internet proved to be a fabulous source of new music. There were great new progressive bands and artists, as well as classic old prog artists' re-releases that had been buried in obscurity when they came out (or had never been released in a timely fashion in the first place). Our hero was in Prog Heaven, and still is. In fact, he found a literal manifestation of Prog Heaven right here at the Dividing Line when he stumbled onto the site quite by accident, and he knew right away that he had to be part of it! Progressive Rock: Under the Radar is a show designed to introduce you to progressive rock music you probably haven't heard before, but that is nevertheless top quality progressive rock music. Mainstream progressive acts, like Yes, Genesis, Porcupine Tree and Spocks Beard are well known in the prog community, but there is an awful lot of great progressive rock that simply gets passed by and/or overshadowed by these great acts. Therefore, it is the mission of this show to bring you the greatest prog you've never heard. While there will be times when a track played on the show will be familiar to you, the average listener should be unfamiliar with most of the tracks we play. This does not mean that quirky B-sides and oddball bonus tracks will be the usual fare on this show. Far from it. Most of what you will hear on the show will be tracks that have been painstakingly culled out of the multitude of progressive music released over the past four decades by your dedicated host, Winkler, who seeks out and presents only the tastiest morsels of progressive rock goodness. Join us for a progressive rock adventure like no other. You'll find your next favorite band here!
