On this week's European Perspective I'm joined by Chris 'The Progman Cometh' Doe, entrepreneur, fan of great music and the inventor of the Bermuda Triangle (which he plays in The Triangle Ensemble of North London). Charlestown is the new album from Manning, who have been bringing their brand of quality progressive music to our ears through eleven albums released in as many years. This episode of The European Perspective features an extended interview with Guy Manning, in which Guy talks about his back catalogue through a series of songs he's selected himself. We then discuss the new album, as well as setting sail on the good ship Waterwitch to give the music a spin.
Thanks to Guy and to John Kennard, the band's drummer, for the chat, which was incredibly enjoyable, and I think you'll all agree makes for a fascinating listen.

Guy Fawkes and The Conspirators are widely considered to be the first true progressive rock band. Their use of barrels of gunpowder together with the triple-necked lute and the new Italian import keyboard, the Mell’o'tron, marked them as something different in the early 1600’s. For the first time this year The European Perspective is conducting a poll to decide on the best British and European albums of the year, in conjunction with The Electric Garden progressive rock festival, being held in Blackpool on May 20th and 21st 2011, and featuring none other than yours truly as guest DJ. In this week's European Perspective I interview Richard Allen, drummer and lyricist for Mogador, a three-piece progressive rock band based in Northern Italy. Richard talks about the band's history, and about their second album All I Am Is Of My Own MaKing, newly released. We also play the album in its entirety, with a commentary on the concept and themes from Richard.
The show also features new releases from Alex Carpani, Lebowski and Nine Stones Close, live recordings by Steve Hackett, Twelfth Night and Frost*, and something a little different from Xing Sa, an excellent French Zeuhl-flavoured band.

Cripes, it's the one hundredth European Perspective!
For this landmark show I've put together a selection of songs that have been played on the show over the two-and-a-bit years that I've been broadcasting, and which I feel are important in the development of The European Perspective for one reason or another. In order to get a bit more perspective on the presentation I'm joined by not one, but two guest presenters - the redoubtable Spoffo, and also my good friend Simon Godfrey.
There was so much great music that I wanted to include - not to mention the endless amounts of banter between the three of us - that I've split show #100 into two parts, the first airing now, the second next weekend.
