Hi all. For those of you that like this sort of thing, my annual "Top 10 Picks" for 2003 is up for your perusal and rebuttal. Check it out and see if you agree or disagree with my assessment of the year's best music.
Great list Jim! While I may not share your exact tastes - all those (that I have heard via my own purchase or the Matinee) kick butt... I'd have to add a few more albums though since it was a great year for music (with a short review of each)
Bryan Beller - View Ever since I started reading his "Life of Bryan" column on Mike Keneally's website, I've been intrigued by the "ultimate sideman" - and now I hear what sort of music he would create. It got elements of fusion, Keneally-esque instrumentals, and some tasty acoustic bass solos. View has a very organic and unique sound to it. Both manic and introspective, View is my #2 album of the year (after Dream Theater's Train of Thought).
Devin Townsend Band - Accelerated Evolution More straight up hard rock than he has done in the past, less layered (and less murky to some ears) than a lot of his earlier work, Accelerated Evolution has one of my favorite songs of the Year (Slow Me Down) on it. Solid straight up Devin.
Sun Caged - Sun Caged ANOTHER Dutch progressive band. Remeniscent of Images and Words-era Dream Theater with yet anothber "unique" vocalist to adjust to, they play technical progressive metal with a joy and exuberance that many of the practitioners of that genre seem to lack these days.
Stimulator - Stimulator Pop music done right. In a similar vein to Powder or Garbage, it's music do drive/party/dance to. Great catchy, innovative little nuggets of pop perfection.
Yogi - Salve King's X meets early Van Halen meets Mike Keneally, and gets processed through a unique mind. Compared to Yogi's first album, this one shows a greater comfort and confidence in his skills. The Ending is one of the best songs released this year - atmospheric and passionate.
Both of my thumbs are up for you. I think anyone who is willing to take on the role of a musician, always putting themselves, their heart and soul out there for others to enjoy and criticize, well...that takes some confidence.

Well done buddy. Keep the music flowing.
BobL and Grrrl, I appreciate the kind words. Now as to the confidence thing...
I think it has more to do with an inability to do anything else. There are many days where I have no idea what in the world I'm doing. I just try to keep following the beam, as it were.
Rene wishes the station had a copy of the Yogi album(s) so other DJs could play Yogi's music too. I guess Rene needs to wish with his credit card. We'll have to see about that as soon as there's room on it!
But seriously, it's great to see you participating here and in our chat Yogi...and I know you are appreciated for your music by everyone around here. Thanks for sharing it with us!

If the station would send and email to yogi AT wonky DOT net that has an address where aforementioned albums should be sent, I'm sure Wonky Records would be glad to provide some promo copies!
Thanks again to everyone for the support. It means an awful lot.
