Starting tomorrow night (Feb. 23), I will feature a new segment on the last show of each month. As February has only 29 days this year, tomorrow will be the last Monday of the month.
The new segment is entitled "Epic Concepts," an homage to the great prog concept albums of all time. I'll be playing a concept album each month on Epic Concepts (one CD if it's a double album).
We're going to kick off this segment right. Tomorrow's featured concept album is The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis. I'll be spinning Disc One. So bring your own silverware, tie a napkin around your neck and get ready to dig into a heaping helping of Lamb tomorrow night! See you there!

Well, it's the end of the month again and that means the return of "Epic Concepts."
Tonight's "Epic Concepts" segment will feature the very excellent concept album "Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory" by Dream Theater (in its entirety).
DT fans, don't miss it!

Hey Mike, how is that Planet P album? That's the free one isn't it? I remember just checking out a couple songs and it sounded pretty cool, but never d/l it. There's another freebee out there by a band called Antimatter, which is one of the guys formerly of Anathema. I'll be playing some of it on my show when it returns this Wednesday.

The album pictured as my avatar is not the free download one that was available on Tony Carey's website. It's the second of the two official releases in the 80s, called Pink World. It was a double album. The music is great and the storyline ain't bad either. The one that was available for download (Go Out Dancing Part 1: 1931) is a lot more subdued and less 80s-ish sounding. In fact, it's extremely dark, although there is a bouncy tune called Work Will Make You Free. What is oddly discomforting about WWSYF is that it's an upbeat song about getting sent to a concentration camp. Quite odd. But it works. I like virtually all of Tony Carey's solo and Planet P output.

Gotta echo Lurkies kudos of GOD part 1. There is some really solid rock/pop on that album, and although it is not prog per-se, it has a depth and weight that helps the album still stand up after repeated listenings. Definitely the best "free" album I've gotten in awhile (at least, with the blessing of the artist ). BTW, the free download stopped at the end of February, so you can't get it at his site anymore, although- since he gave it away for free, he prolly wouldn't mind if U snagged it off Kazaa or WinMX. I, of course, have no idea how such programs work, but I'm sure they come with a help file.....
Well, Epic Concepts is only the last show of the month, so no complete concept album tonight. However, I will be playing stuff from the bands who will be at CalProg. I think I can safely say some Yes will be played and the usual assortment of goodies.
Tune in!

The last show of the month coming up and that means it is once again time for "Epic Concepts."
So in honor of Marillion's new release, Marbles, I thought we'd go back in time and give a listen to their mighty concept album Misplaced Childhood.
So join me Monday night, April 26 at 10 p.m. Pacific, 1 a.m. Eastern, for Misplaced Childhood and perhaps some stuff off Marbles. In addition, I'll be playing some Karnataka, Tiles, Star One and some tunes from the bands who are playing CalProg on July 3, along with much more!
Tune in live or join my mighty Archive Army.
