I just got around to listening to the Izz L&I archive today. Don't ask me why I never bothered before- I have no excuse. I guess it's part of my M.O. to snooze thru the really cool stuff the first time around. Actually- I'm lucky- I ususally wait until a really cool band has broken up before I discover them. Anyhoo- these guys are freaking AWESOME! Not sure why, but the studio stuff I've heard on DLBN never grabbed me the way this live performance did. I am SO DAMN STOKED to check these guys out at CalProg- especially after all the raves I've seen about their performance at ProgWest. Once again- thank you to the mighty DLBN for not only monopolizing all my free time (of which I have none), but determining how a large portion of my disposable income (of which I also have none) is spent. I am definitely grateful....
I totally agree there grinch. If it weren't for the progwest live performance I'd have never gotten into these guys in the same way. Something about their live performance has an energy in it that seems to only be there live. The studio albums are very good once you are farmiliar with the music, but for pure power and passion nothing tops them live, especially when they're right there and your clothes are moving from the pure raw energy of the band. I'm very glad the L&I special captured that becasue it's so much of the IZZ experience. Glad you enjoyed the special. It was a treat for me being able to do it with musicians I have been enjoying so much on a personal level. Thanks for the kind words!
I recently heard this show too, as it pre-dated my arrival here at the DLBN. Great show, but it's too bad they were unhappy with their performances of two of my Izz favorites (I Move and Knight of Nights) and didn't include them on the archive. Everything they DID include was awesome.
