This was a sample of a track from a prog band that I've had for a long time but have no idea what it is! I figure somebody here must know, but I've not been able to find out for years.. and I like the sample and I wouldn't mind hearing more, but that would require knowing who the artist is. To me it is very old Genesis-esque which is probably why I like it. Oh well. If anyone could help shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Let's say you take Fish era Marillion and tell them to write bonus tracks to Genesis' Selling England by The Pound and you'll have this album! Another Genesis-type band out of South Amercia who also bring in many elements of thier own. Very strong Tony Banks keyboards and Mellotron, Steve Hackett guitar and even stronger lyrics (some in Spanish), The song Icarus is especially impressive! If you're into Genesis sound-alike bands (like I am) check out Rael!
How did you know about that band? And perhaps I need to check with Greg Walker at Synphonic about getting a copy of the cd if all of the material has that feel to it.
Hey Bobble! Good to hear from you again! Don't be too impressed, you'll give me a complexion or something. To be quite honest, I knew that one right away since I've had it for a long time ( mid 90's easy ). You see, My favorite band has always been Genesis ( no big shocker there ) But many years ago I made it almost like a hobby to find as many Genesis sounding or ( clones ) as I could find. At first it was easy to find them, now it's getting pretty difficult since I think I have most of them. I did a lot of reading ( practically studied Greg Walkers cd list for hours) and took a chance on many cd's too. I look at it this way...(IMOP) "Genesis is no longer writing new material, for one reason or another, but there ARE bands out there that write and perform songs, maybe never better, BUT just as good as THEY did"!!! So, maybe not from 'The Original' , but it sure fills my 'Genesis Appetite' completely. If you'd like me to, I'll put a list on here of some real sounding 'Genesis Types' and you can see how many you have heard of or have not. Let me know? See ya, fs

fs...most definitely I would like to see that list. I too have been a Genesis fan for nearly there decades (gads...isn't that scary!) I have never taken the time to do the searching you have done. Share...please share!
Bob All right...now you asked for it! I went through my collection and picked out just a few of what I feel are some of the best Genesis influenced bands (top ten). Followed by the top five 'Genesis Clones' of all time. If Genesis is your thing, these will definitely be of some interest. Have you heard of some of these?......................

Ageness' first album Showing Paces was good, though not great. There are a few really good songs on the album, though -- even one where the essence of Symphonic has been squeezed into a four-minute piece, suitable even for brave radio people to play! The lyrics on Showing Paces are the weak part of the album. They are bad. I mean, really bad. It's not that they lack point or anything, it's just that the guy who wrote them don't seem to know his English grammer very well. Listen with an open mind. The band's second album Rituals came out in early 1996, and it's clear that the band has learnt something between now and when Showing Paces came out. Gone are the grammatical horribilities, the playing is much tighter and the overall sound has really improved. Really recommended if you're brought up on Marillion, Yes and Rush and now want to expand your progressive horizon.

Absolutely brilliant Scottish Genesis-clone! If you like the sound of Genesis around the year 1973-4, and early Marillion, then this is the band for you. They do nothing new, just composing in the Genesis style: long songs, muted guitars, raw scottish vocals, and LOTS and LOTS of great MiniMoog solos!! After a few minutes of listening to Somewhere but Yesterday, it becomes obvious that they draw their inspiration from the old Genesis of the seventies. The style of the vocalist as well as most of the arrangements clearly evoke the Nursery Cryme - Foxtrot era. In fact, only the use of synthesizers betrays the era. The band features vocals and flute, keyboards (lots of organ), guitars, bass and drums. The compositions show surprising bits of originality and the very appropriate production captures the essence of a now legendary sound. Only purists will be able to resist. Regarding Somewhere But Yesterday: What's a masterpiece! Finally, I can present to you perhaps the only great Clone-album. Citizen Cain, these excellent composers and musicians alike, dedicated it to Genesis, which in reality is simply a serious kick. This album is by no means a "poor copy" of any one of Genesis' albums! Also these Scottish guys are not simple imitators of the Legend. Somewhere But Yesterday, a magnificent Clone no doubt, seems to appear as if especially for me, for you, for all of those who miss much the true Genesis! In the course of almost 70 minutes of listening of this album, one gets an absolute impression of another excellent work from Genesis of 197..., which "got lost accidentally".
Thanks tons. I am acutally familiar with and own quite a few of the bands and albums you reference. I am going to print out your list and give it a good review.
Thanks for taking the time to pull the info together and share it.
Hiya Bobble, My pleasure exclusively! This was just a short list of my top 10 (+5). I'm glad you've heard and/or have some of these on my list. I'm going to give you more that I wonder if you've heard of or not? ....They'll be in random order, just cd's of Genesis influenced bands that are really good cd's that I've got. Check that list out too! AND congrats on being a 'full member' now too! (whatever that means)
