Gee Mary, that list looks familiar. Could it have been a dream, a premonition, de ja vu all over again?...hmmmmmmm
Well, back to the subject. I also listen to the 24hr. auto feed and I've heard some good tunes there also. Lemme see...besides Grrrls litany... Atticus Fault, RPWL, can't think right now.
Well my list would be too large to write, but anyhoo here I go: Kevin Gilbert, Toy Matinee, Kaviar, Giraffe, Enchant, Vanden Plas, Mike Keneally, Sylvan, A.C.T., Alias Eye, Agent Cooper, Conspiracy, Gazpacho, Opeth, Ty Tabor, Marc Bonilla, Fractal, Buddy Hayden, Singularity, Attila and Dave Project, Lana Lane, Rocket Scientists, Mark McCrite, Eric Norlander, Gordion Knot, Porky Tree, IQ, Pendragon and the list goes on and on and on...
yay Jai...the first to mention ADP...lol I promise to start encoding a disc or two a day during the week to expand my digital library. I have many CD's but not so many encoded as mp3s...
I'm with Eric. When I first discovered the original SB board Jim and I exchanged a few emails & I checked out his show. Funny thing - my first ever DLBN experience was the infamous night when a couple decided to post naked pics of their unattractive selves for all of chat to gasp in horror at. I, being new, truly thought it was a joke - sending links that they found somewhere. Only later did I realize that they were DLBN DJs! Talk about a rude awakening! That still cracks me up when I think about it.
Since becoming a listener I'm grateful to have been turned on to Kevin Gilbert, ACT & Shawn's amazing "rare live" Genesis collection, and more cowbell in general.
I have to say this is a very cool thread! It's really awesome to see that we are evidently succeeding in our station goal to introduce our audience to new and interesting music that most likely would not have gotten heard otherwise. Fortunately I've been introduced to endless amounts of music thanks to everyone here. I'd say the list is as follows:
Spock's Beard Transatlantic Izz Kevin Gilbert Devin Townsend Ayreon Mew OSI Proud 2 B Weird Porcupine Tree
Bands that I discovered because of TDLBN: Izz Tiles Niacin Jughead
Bands which I already new of, but appreciate the exposure (In other words, stuff I like that I can't hear pretty much anywhere else! ): Kevin Gilbert Spock's Beard Genesis Yes Marillion The Grays (Hey, if ya dig the Grays, check out Jason Falkner's solo stuff!)
It was actually Jim's show that drew me to DLBN...
Actually, that's how I got to discover DBLN. I remember I read a post on the SB mailing list and Jim had said something about an interview. I got here and caught one of the archives. Those were the days when Jim had 2 shows per week, saturday nights for 'merkings' and sunday afternoons for the 'u-roh-pian'. The archive I first heard was one of the sundays, and Jim was so hungover that he played only EPICS!!!. I swear the stuff he played NO ONE has played it on radio EVER period!/full stop!. On that very show I heard: ELP's Tarkus, Yes' CTTE, UK's Alaska/In the Light of Day/Presto Vivace/In the Dead of Night suite, SB'sTGN, Genesis' Supper's Ready.... MAN!!!! AND NOW YOU WONDER WHY I'M ADDICTED TO THIS STATION?
After that, my life changed altogether . Now I don't go out on Saturdays, I stay in front of the computer most of the nights, my friends are planning on killing Papa J cause they really really hate him , and in general they hate DBLN cause they 'lost me' to it
