Misplaced edges out Clutching... MC was the first Marillion album I bought(on a suggestion by Mark Bredius after I heard Transatlantic), and it blew my mind. Clutching has some AMAZING melodies as well, but MC is more coherent, imho...

If a piece of work was an honest expression of its maker, it was also a milestone of his progress... As much as the notion of "progressive" music has been mocked... it was really the only possible kind of honest music. -Neil Peart
Clutching At Straws and Misplaced Childhood are almost equally great in my eyes, however I think Clutching takes the photo finish.
On a completly different and 'godlike' note - I was going for a walk outside today listening to MC and when it got to the very end of Bitter Suite and beginning of Heart of Lothian ("it started raining, it started raining") It did in fact start raining heavily! It was unreal! I guess god likes Marillion. What an experiance for me, Neal would be proud.

Misplaced came out the year I was a senior in HS & that album has been one of my top 5 albums of all time. Clutching was far darker personally for Fish & myself when I listened to it over & over at the time...
Clutching may be darker...but I have to go with Clutching simply because I think Fish was at his poetic and lyrical best. Some of the images he conjures up with simple words still amaze me...
...a hand held over a candle in agnst filled bravado...
I just got Fugazi today, havn't listened to it yet but am very excited. If it's anywhere near as good as the other three Fish era Marillion albums I'll be extremly happy.

Count me in for Clutching - MC was my first exposure to Marillion but Clutching At Straws is a classic example of the tortured artist producing a masterpiece.
