Epic Problems!
« on: September 03, 2004, 04:20:52 pm »

Hey everyone. I'm having trouble with broadcasting for some reason.
I get connected to the stream and after 30 seconds I get a popup that says "server disconnected." I'm not running any firewall hardware and I've been told by BellSouth tech support that my modem doesn't have an internal firewall. I had this problem when I first started, but as soon as I got a static IP address, it went away. Not so this time. I'm way too non-technical to figure this out and would appreciate any help you could give. In the meantime, I can't get on to broadcast, so if some nice DJ (or even a nasty one) could please take Epic Prog for me tonight, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

This really bites, because who knows how long Hurricane Frances will have me out of commission? It was two weeks with Charley and Frances is bigger. Sheesh!

I can't wait to get back on the air, because I have several Gary Sauer-esque stories of my recent move to Orlando and the problems involved in trying to move both after a hurricane and just prior to another one. You won't want to miss my thrilling account of a 230-mile trip that took 10 hours. I just wish I could bring it to you tonight.

P.S. Does Bishie EVER answer his phone?  Wink

You shouldn't need a static IP.  Those symtoms do sound like routing/firewall issues for sure.  What's the make and model of the modem, Lurks?  I might be able to help out without you forking over extra cash for a static IP.

Thanks for the help, guys, but I have not changed a single setting from before. To answer FB's question, it's a Westell modem (don't have the model number here at work). Any and all input is appreciated, especially with Bishie's computer down for the count.

By the way, BellSouth Tech Support has informed me I do not have a firewall issue and I don't have a router. Perhaps they are wrong on the firewall issue but I wouldn't know how to find out if there is an internal one.
