Favorite Live Performance
« on: September 27, 2003, 12:22:03 pm »
I have been thinking about some of the lists that folks have been responding to and since I am such a huge fan of live music I was curious about three musical questions regarding live music...

1) What is the first live show you saw?
2) What is the last live show you saw?
3) What are three of your all-time favorite live performers?

I am one for sticking to the rules of a top 3 poll without doing a "I can't just list three!!!" ammendment. Actually it is a pet peeve I have when people stray from the list. However, the clarification wasn't set here so I will break it down. I didn't know if this was arena shows, club shows or all together.

Arena/Stadium:
 1) What is the first live show you saw?

   KISS

 2) What is the last live show you saw?

   Queensryche/Dream Theater/Fates Warning

 3) What are three of your all-time favorite live performers?

   KISS
   Iron Maiden
   Queensryche

Club/Theater:
 1) What is the first live show you saw?

   Bon Jovi

 2) What is the last live show you saw?

   NDV

 3) What are three of your all-time favorite live performers?

   Kevin Gilbert
   Toy Matinee
   Kaviar

First: It was either REO Speedwagon or Journey back in '78, not sure which was first.

Last: Porcupine Tree at The Vic a couple months ago in Chicago

3 Best in no particular order (Arena)

Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder
Roger Waters Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking
Peter Gabriel So

Best clubs shows would be the 2 PT shows and Marillion's This Strange Engine

My first live show of any consiquence was Phil Collins' But Seriously tour in 1990.

The last live show I saw was Porcupine Tree in Seattle last August

And, the best live show I ever saw.... well.. at the time I'd say it would have to have been that first Phil Collins show... but that was for more sentimental reasons than it actually being a really terrific show (even though it was pretty damn good).  In terms of pure musicianship I'd have to say Spock's Beard in Atlanta, that was amazing, and as it turned out, it was the last full show that Neal ever did with the band.

Jamie did you see the Gabriel UP tour?  I missed it this time around but Alistair got to go and he said it was amazing.

I forgot about The Tubes in '83...that was a GREAT show! Damn, 41 years old and I've got the memory of a 90 year old.

It was easy! I could have listed many more before getting down to Genesis as far as my list of memorable shows goes (may have been different had it been during the Gabriel era) but we were asked for only three.  ;)

A couple of souvenirs from 2 of my 3 favorite live performances:

The Tubes, 1976
No, that's not real, it's a prop...but still!!!

Unfortunately all I have from the '72 Pink Floyd show is the memory of them playing all of Dark Side Of The Moon, 6 months before it was released.

Many more concert photos & stuff:
