1. First show: Kansas opening for Queen in late 74, early 75. I was ten and went by myself. Have I mentioned that my mom kicks ass? 2. Last show: The Paybacks and Supagroup (last show featuring bands with a record deal anyway) 3. Best live acts (number of times seen) * Cowboy Mouth (15 times) * Rush ( 9 times) * Electric Six (once, but again this coming Friday)
First live show was Chicago in Chicago at the old Stadium.
Last live show was Porcupine Tree at the Vic in Chicago.
Top 3
Pink Floyd - Animals tour @ Soldier Field 1976 (I was the only sober person there) Genesis - any number of times Sting from first row center - Dream of the Blue Turtles tour
Honorable Mentions Prince Allan Holdsworth Chick Corea 's Electrik Band U2 - b4 they were big at the Aragon Ball Room Yes in the round in 1979 Howard Jones at the Auditorium Theater The Art Of Noise @ the Metro Peter Gabriel Bill Bruford @ Ravinia with Earthworks
I remember that Genesis show well. It was definately a good one, but I can't help but think how awesome the Invisible Touch tour would have been. That was the peak of their career and man, it would have been something else to see.
Wow you saw Genesis in 76? That is so cool! That was the year I was born, so I missed out on all the cool stuff. What was that like? Was everyone kindof wondering how it would be withoug Gabriel as that was the first tour after he left ?
Yeah, Genesis in '76 was my first real concert. I'll always remember the chills I got when the opening chords to 'Dance on a Volcano' began and the entire stage erupted into a "Blood" RED!!! Too cool! I'm sure everyone was eager to see what the 'new' Genesis would be like live. As for myself, I never saw them with Gabriel so I had nothing to compare it to. But, I was so much into 'Trick of the Tail' at that time, I could not WAIT to see this band LIVE....aaahh the memories !
1st That was my idea - Mahogany Rush openning for Kansas - 1979
Last Show - Rush VT 2002
Best 3: Rush VT Tour (and T4E / CP / RtB / Presto / HYF Tours) Pink Floyd - The Division Bell tour (in the rain) Black Sabbath & Blue Oyster Cult 1980 (ish)
Next 2: Robert Plant with the Black Crowes openning 1990 Ultra Blue - Every show I saw was F'en GREAT!
Andy - good call on the Jesus Christ Superstar show. I caught the final tour of the original cast and it was amazing - live orchestra and everything. Best $90 seats I didn't have to pay for, too.
OK... GEEZ... I can't believe I missed out on this thread!
1) What is the first live show you saw? Chicago/The Beach Boys, 1975
2) What is the last live show you saw? Porcupine Tree/Opeth, 2003
3) What are three of your all-time favorite live performers? RUSH (15 shows since 1975, 1981 fave) Genesis (8 shows since 1978, 1982 fave - Supper's Ready) Yes (10 shows since 1978, 1978 fave - in the round)
This question is really difficult, so I give honorable mention to: Peter Gabriel (lost out in top 3 due to extortionate ticket prices) Frank Zappa Porcupine Tree Pink Floyd Ozric Tentacles Kansas Spock's Beard Jean-Luc Ponty
An even harder question would be.... What are your 3 all-time favorite concert performances ?
