Deadwing Debut this Saturday @ 6:30 PM
« on: March 26, 2005, 12:09:25 am »

Tune in to a special listening party featuring a few tracks off Deadwing, the brand new Porcupine Tree CD. This starts at 6:30 PM Pacific time on The Dividing Line (www.thedividingline.com). If you have been eagerly anticipating this release then this is your chance to get a first listen!

This show will take up the last 30 minutes of Underdog Prog and may run a few minutes into Prog'opolis, so a big thanks to Mary and Vince & Daisy for generously donating some of their show time for this special event!

Will the debut of the new Porcupine Tree tuneage be archived if I am unable to hear this special event live?

BB,

There is no plan to archive this listening party because it's a one-off show.

That's what I figured ... but it looks like I'll be here for the live premiere anyway, so no worries!   Smiley

I wholeheartedly disagree!  The solo section just doesn't fit and sounds really contrived to me. Not only does it not fit, but the musicianship during heavy section is terrible - sounds like a shitty version of Black Album era Metallica.  The drumming is boring and the riffs are repetative and dull.  I love the first few minutes of the song though, really catchy and the bass hooks are great.

Last time I checked, people often have differing opinions on music.  Roll Eyes For instance, a friend of mine who has impeccable taste in music, finds PTree as a whole to be quite boring and meaningless.  He thinks that most of their songs just meander off into nothing and go nowhere.  I disagree.  I'm hooked on the band at the moment.  The heavy part of the song in question is probably a low light for me, but still sounds reasonably good although would be better if the drummer was more busy.  It could have rocked really hard, but as it is it sort of rocks a little bit. actually I am a music critic, and yeah it does "suck".

EDIT: probably should add that's obviously fine for you to disagree but to roll your eyes at me is disrespectful, snobbish, and rude. If you don't like what I have to say, either keep it to yourself or at least try to rebut respectfully.  All I did was post my opinion, nothing more.

Yeah, I think I gotta go with Cal and Adam on this one, if for no other reason than their superiour musical taste.  Grin

I don't - and never will - object to people expressing their opinions, even those that differ from mine, however I often find that people can be somewhat insensitive, egotistical and crass about expressing them.  I find it ironic that I'm being called snobbish and rude, when that's PRECISELY what bothered me about Adam's post.

You did say WHY you didn't like the song (which is good - many people don't do that), but you also put it in a way as to be deliberately abrasive (which is bad). Words like "shitty" have no place in a music review - you should know that.

what i wrote was definitly not a music review.

when I write an opinion I never beat around the bush, if i think it's shit i'll say so - especially on something as informal as a message board.  and what's this about being insensitive? to who?  And what I wrote was certainly not egotistical either, im obviously a big fan of the band and I just said what I didn't like about a couple *extremly disappointing (to me)* minutes of their latest music. it's not like I didn't provide enough reasons - I even said what I DO like about the song.

Oh yeah, and of course it was deliberatly abrasive, you think I'm going to write harshly about something and not mean it?  I don't see anything 'bad' with using a word like 'shitty' to describe something so trivial as a chord progression, especially on an internet forum.

either way, i'm glad that you perceived it the way that you did.  argument is healthy in my books, especially on a Tuesday evening. What I wrote was in no way more a 'music review' than "this RAWKS" or whatever you originally wrote.
