Well, I just wanted to let you know that the high speed DLBN feed has been significantly raised in sound quality. Thanks to the programming efforts of our server admin, some commuting in the rain, and one six foot long cable, we are now offering full FM quality sound on our high speed feed. This will provide a much enhanced enjoyable listening experience for everyone! For those technically minded people that would like to know what we're running, here's the info. The high speed feed is still running a Vorbis OGG feed. Due to development limitations on the previous software we were running, we were stuck with a sample rate of 22050khz for both the high speed and low speed feeds. If we wanted to keep the low speed feed for the modem users, we could not raise the sample rate. However, since there have been new developments in the sound drivers we are using, we're now able to take advantage of some of the new features which allow us a higher sample rate. We're now pushing a feed with a sample rate of 44100khz. In the interests of bandwidth conservation, the OGG feed is set to a variable bitrate mode with a minimum of 4.2kbytes per sec and a max of 6.0kbytes per sec. Thanks to Shawn Kirkpatrick (our server admin) for putting in the time and effort to keep DLBN going strong. Enjoy the music everyone!
Wow! A 44100khz stream? Man that's nice. Thats a pretty substantial jump in quality. I'm really excited about this. The best internet prog radio station (IMHO) has just kicked it up a notch. Bravo!!!!!
For me the annoying thing about internet radio was that it was always so horrid to listen to. I'm glad we're able to create an environment where that's not an issue.
