In response to Rolling Stone's recent 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list, which criminally ignored some of the most important guitarists in recent memory and added insult to injury by listing many that don't even deserve mention, we decided to come up with our own. The latest episode of Progopolis represents part 1 of a 3-part series counting down the individuals who we consider to be the 50 most underappreciated, underrated, and generally overlooked guitarists in rock and prog history. Some of our choices may cause you to scratch your chin, others to pump your fists in agreement. Hopefully, our decision to force you to listen to the podcast to discover our choices won't tick you off too much. Besides, spoilers suck! This episode of Progopolis also features the world premiere of a track from the forthcoming album by GRICE, as well as a brand new track from Kate Bush's recently released 50 Words For Snow.
The 50 Most Underappreciated Guitarists of All Time, Part 2
On the latest episode of Progopolis, we continue the countdown for our selection of the 50 most underappreciated, underrated, and generally overlooked guitarists in the world and deliver a spiteful "Take THAT, Rolling Stone!" to the creators of the top 100 list that inspired the theme. If you're dying to find out who our top 10 choices will be, make sure to tune in live on Saturday, December 17, where we'll perform the last great reveal and quite possibly deliver a shock to your senses so severe that it'll take you weeks to recover. You've been warned! This week's episode also features music from the exciting debut release by Hess & Franzen.
The 50 Most Underappreciated Guitarists of All Time, Part 3
Spurred by the criminal negligence displayed in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list, we decided to take matters into our own hands and make things right. The latest episode of Progopolis serves as the final chapter of a 3-part series counting down the people who we consider to be the most underappreciated, overlooked and ignored guitarists of all time. Who made it into our top 10? Who will be our number 1 choice? You'll have to listen to the podcast to find out, but the good news is there's plenty of great music to absorb as you work your way toward the ultimate revelation. This episode of Progopolis also features our traditional Holiday broadcast of the Progopolis-exclusive track Jingle Bell Prog featuring Bobby Helms, Steven Wilson, Adrian Belew, Fish, and Shawn Bishop. We hope you agree with our selections! If not, drop us a line and let us know and we'll include your suggestions on a future episode tentatively titled Axe Gods: Oversights and Omissions.
At long last, our top 50 choices for the most underappreciated guitarists of all time is revealed. Remember, none of the musicians listed below were included in Rolling Stone's recent "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list -- which was the very impetus behind us creating our own list. Let us know what you think! We'll include your feedback in an upcoming episode of Progopolis tentatively titled "Axe Gods: Oversights and Omissions." The list below is divided up across the last 3 episodes of Progopolis, each of which can still be downloaded or streamed at http://www.thedividingline.com/p

Would you believe it? 2011 was another great year for music, making it even harder for us to narrow down our list of choices for the 20 best albums. Being natural born "list makers" didn't make it any easier, apparently. Although we'd known for quite some time that "Peak of Eternal Light" by Moonbound was probably going to be our number one choice, some last-minute discoveries and fabulous late December releases forced us to make some painful decisions like pushing Van Der Graaf Generator, Trey Gunn, Opeth, and John Wetton out of contention. We're kidding about the Wetton. But not about the rest. We hope you'll agree with the majority of our choices, although we know there's not a snowball's chance in hell that anyone will agree with them all. Thanks to all of the wonderful artists who helped make 2011 an unforgettable year.

On this month's episode of Progopolis, we pay tribute to some of the influential musicians that have passed away in the last few months. But rest assured, it's not all gloom and doom and sadness and despair. There are also plenty of rockin' tunes and wacky banter throughout, including Vince's embarrassing high school story about getting caught red-handed trying to read a love interest's diary. For those juicy details, fast-foward to the 130:50 mark!
