Her name is Judy Dyble, and she was born in England in 1949. By the time she was 21 she had been the lead singer for the now legendary Fairport Convention, done some demo recordings with a group of then-unknown youngsters named Robert Fripp, Michael Giles, Peter Giles, and Ian McDonald, and taken part in a short-lived duo called Trader Horne. In 1973 she abrupty turned her back on the music industry and vanished into the obscurity of real life. Nearly 30 years later she resurfaced, and by 2006 she had released three albums. In 2008, Judy struck up an online friendship with occasional Steven Wilson collaborator Tim Bowness, which eventually developed into her latest album, 2009's "Talking with Strangers", which was co-written and produced by Bowness. The new album features guest performances by old friends Robert Fripp, Ian McDonald, and Simon Nicol--as well as new friends Pat Mastelotto and Julianne Regan of All About Eve. How did three guys (one from Utah, one from Tokyo and another from Brussels) wind up calling themselves The California Guitar Trio? Interestingly enough, it all started in England...
Former Robert Fripp pupils Paul Richards, Hideyo Moriya and Bert Lams have been entertaining audiences for years with their awe-inspiring aural acrobatics--and the best news is they're currently on tour. Check out the band's show calendar at www.cgtrio.com for dates near you.
Meanwhile, you can explore their catalogue and have a taste of what you may have been missing (including their early work with Robert Fripp & The League of Crafty Guitarists) by listening to the latest episode of Prog'opolis at http://www.thedividingline.com/p Uncle Bob must be so very proud.

The question was posed: How can you tell if a song is in an odd-time signature? The answer was given: If you try to dance to it, you end up hurting yourself. But rather than expounding verbally, the music should really be allowed to speak for itself. And while it doesn’t ever hurt to have a calculator handy, the list of songs below represents what we feel are perfect examples of songs that deviate from the 4/4 norm without making it terribly obvious.

Apparently, Trey Gunn’s latest collaborative effort was born of an hour-long drum solo. UKZ drummer Marco Minnemann, who had worked with Gunn in the Eddie Jobson-led prog project UKZ, had recently recorded a 51-minute drum solo and was looking for someone to fill in the blanks. Enter Gunn, whose initial response of "No way!" eventually evolved into the masterful "Modulator", a frenetic and explorative 22-track album set for release May 18. Those interested in having a listen can download the latest episode of Prog'opolis, which aired a sampling of six tracks from the forthcoming release.
The latest episode also features the last in a three-part series of songs in odd time signatures, with musical selections as wide-ranging as Gavin Harrison, The Beatles, Faith No More, Big Big Train and the Pat Metheny Group.
