For my money, this is another one of my favorite themes I have done. Learning about the life of Arthur C Clarke was inspirational to me, as well as getting to know some of his greatest works and the legacy he left behind. We also get to listen to new music from Farpoint, and Birds & Buildings, as well as Abarax.
Next week we will take our first trip through "Escape Velocity" a new section of the show in which we explore the music of a chosen country or geographical area. This time around our journey will take us to Finland where we will encounter a world of progressive musics and amazing bands.
Also, for those who play along in the "Book Club" portion of the show, our next readings will be from George Orwell. Yet another master of literature that has inspired many great progressive works.

This is our first episode of "Escape Velocity" in which we explore the world through prog rock. This first episode is all about Finnish prog rock. While I am sure that I did not hit all of the major Finnish prog groups, there is over 3 hours of Finnish progressive music to enlighten your ears. House keeping, spring cleaning, call it what you will. All of the most recent shows have been geared towards central themes, but that leaves little time to explore the newest sounds coming my way. Therefore we took the theming off this week in order to simply present some fantastic new progressive artists that you may want to pay attention to. We also had a small tribute to Gary Gygax, and a Jam Session (for those who are fans of the jamband circuit).
Next week we return to 1970 one last time as we round out our 1970 prog rock history lessons. We will also step back and catch some important bands that we missed. Show 109 finds us finishing up prog history for 1970. I am sure that I missed a few bands along the way, but we managed to hit most of the major ones. With 1971 on the horizon, I forsee that it will take most of summer to get through it all, but the bands and albums that are coming in the next episode are all fantastic. As we end 1970 you will find that there seems to be a lot of focus on jazz fusion. It is a growing entity in the prog world at this time and here we see it being worked with in the context of Zappa, Van Der Graaf, King Crimson, and the entry of John McLaughlin. Due to source material, our second set has some gapping, but I still felt it important to expose those bands for the sake of catching some missed threads.
Next week, we will be listening to music by the band Longshanks, and if all goes well we will have Longshanks, and Tinyfish in the chat room to talk about their albums. The theme will be "A body made of music". Please join us for another thrilling episode of Soundscape here on The Dividing Line.

Hello Boys & Goils, This episode of Soundscape allows us to explore the music of 2 fantastic bands, Longshanks and Tinyfish. Longshanks has recenly emerged out of a 13 year slumber and is working on new material to be released in 2009. You will hear the 1st completed track from the upcoming "Return of Longshanks" album, as well as some remastered tracks from days gone by. We also had Andre in the chatroom to answer questions about the upcoming release and history of the band. On the Tinyfish side of things, we play almost the entirety of the Tinyfish debut album. Members of Tinyfish were in chat, but only commented about Simon and his pants fetish. We also get to hear an epic track from the recent release by Abel Ganz "Shooting Albatross". Finally, our theme for the week was to put music together that was oriented towards the body. Despite efforts by chatters, we left out many internal organs. Next week we will explore music inspired by George Orwell, particularly in relation to Animal Farm and 1984. We will also here new music from Oxygene8, Todd Grubbs, Relayer, Ville Juvonen, and finally Magenta. There has been so much new music that it has been difficult to catch up. My thanks to those who are waiting for these items to get some airplay. To the rest of you, I promise it was worth the wait.

Hello fellow Soundscapers!! This week we turn our eyes to music that is inspired by the novel 1984 by George Orwell. The book takes a stark look at a future that might be if we are not careful and let heartless ideologies take hold. For my part the book was an amazing journey..and strangely almost all of my favorite media arises from Orwellian inspiration. There was a dearth of music available for this show- so the show is a bit longer in hopes of exhausting the supply of sources I came across.
Next week we may or may not get to an Italian Prog themed show. I have been working on the various leads that I have, but I want to make sure I do the best job I can in alerting you to the world of Italian prog. Therefore, I will let it take the time it requires to do the show properly. Nevertheless, we will have an entertaining show for you next week, so please stop on by.

Soundscape #113 History of Prog: Journey into 1971
A crazy week to say the least! I have been in training all week for my new job, but I could not miss my time with the music. As John Miles states at the end "Music was my first love and it will be my last". So welcome aboard the 113th edition of Soundscape in which you will hear a smattering of newer music, and our historical odyssey of 1971 begins as well.
Next week, we will play it by ear. With the new schedule not yet in place at work I am unsure of when I will be on air. If you are part of the DLBN mailing list then you can find out as soon as I do about the when for next weeks show. The what on the other hand is a little more eclectic, while I will plan to have some newer material from recent acquisitions, my overall goal is to have those present help me build the setlist as I go. We will simply connect the dots, if 2 songs are tangential to one another in any way, we will connect them. I am not absolutely sure that Herman Hesse had any kind of angst. Nevertheless this show looks at music inspired by his works. Sadly for this author, I was unable to find a lot of progressive music. However, Hesse is an amazing writer and deserves full credit for his enterprising story lines and philosophical dialogue.
The second piece of the puzzle emerges out of my new job; which is working with abused teens. Many themes emerge out of the situations that I find myself in on a daily basis, this theme was no different.
Also look out for new music from Pat Mastoloto's "Tuner" and Argentinian soundscapers Hyacintus. It was an enjoyable ride and I hope you all have a good time listening.
