Yeah it was a purchase I almost did not make.

After buying the last TFK release they entered my "hear before buy" category but when I saw the Agents CD I just thought I would take the risk.

And it paid off nicely :)

Great CD!

Steve.

The Dividing Line / Hey All :)

I just wanted to say hello :)

I have bounced through here a few times but kind of drifted away.

Steve - Aussie, 35 - musician.

I am currently recording a Trio project with Zoltan Csorsz on drums - his parts are all done and sound great :)  Of course they sound great.

Anyway, I received the Agents of Mercy album last week and am totally loving that.  It is the best thing Roine has released in a while (probably since Adam and Even IMO).  Really good album!

I am really pleased to see this place is still going strong.

Hmmm...

Release of the year is likely to be Devin Townsend's "KI" album.

I have heard it and can not imagine anything topping it at this stage.

And yes, I would definitely call it progressive even though it sounds very atmospheric and groove driven.

Other than that, Adagio's latest album is incredible in the Prog Metal genre.

Agents of Mercy album is great too and includes my favourite drummer Zoltan Csorsz who has also recorded for my Trio CD.

Promotion / Re:Guitarist - Prog - Melodic - Metal

Thanks very much!

I am working on a CD EP at the moment - it will be 2 songs and 2 instrumentals and will demonstrate what I am doing right now to the highest sound quality I can created on my current recording rig.   Then I will be moving on to some more progressive stuff...  Think Ron Jarzombek meets King Crimson meets what I am doing now (melodic rock).

I would love to get the CD EP reviewed/played/whatever here when it is done.  A full length CD will follow but that will take some time as many old tracks have to be completely re recorded to fit in sonically with the newer stuff.   The Crimson cover will most likely appear on the full length as I dont want a cover on the limited track release.

I guess those words probably summarise what I do, to an extent.

If you want to check out my stuff go to:

Go to the MP3 page for some demos...  Surfing With the Tsunamian is my latest - its a guitar focussed rock instrumental.  Let me know what you think.

Im working on a King Crimson cover at the moment, too, which may interest a few people.

Artists & Music / After chatting I got these CDs...
« on: May 05, 2005, 10:18:00 pm »
I was in the chat a couple of weekends ago talking to a few of the guys...

Since then and on recommendation I have gone out and bought King Crimson - TPTB.  I am a big fan of 80s/90s KC and also some of their 70s stuff.  I like TPTB a lot and it was a very worthy purchase.  It certainly is a lot better to my ear than TCOL which put me off the new lineup, until now.

I also got Adrian Belew's SIDE ONE.  This one is good but not great.  Some songs are cool others are a bit hit and miss.   I think the problem is that the album is only about 30 minutes long.  I want more for my dollar, really.  I loved Op Zop Too Wah - that was the perfect album for me.  This one is just a bit short and the themes arent really developed greatly.  The power trio on three of the tracks is excellent as would be expected.

I also got Porcupine Tree - Deadwing.  I like it a lot so far but need more listens. I read somewhere that Wilson was trying to bring prog into the 90s with PT.  To my ear it is more like he is dragging it slap bang into 1986.  The vocal approach and moody synth stuff is extremely 80s romantic sounding and yeah, i like it a lot, but it is not modern apart from the grungy guitars - which do work very well.  Overall i think i am going to like this album a lot, it has a lot of heart and some very cohesive and immersive song writing.

Thats all!

Artists & Music / Re:What was your last CD purchase?

Pain of Salvation: BE.

It's good, but not GREAT.  The song flow is a real let down for the material.

It is a real shock.  I consider Zoltan as the BEST drummer in modern prog.  Bar none.  I would also consider Jonas/Zoltan as indeed the best drum/bass duo in prog of the last 15 years.

If they have replaced Zoltan this next guy better be amazing...  I hope it wasnt purely on commercials (dollars) and that the reason was simply they couldnt afford Zoltan now that he has a bigger profile.

He is a KILLER rock drummer - check out his work with Time Requiem - that is pure neoclassical rock...  The guy can do fusion, jazz and very energetic rock/metal...

The new guy better bring something amazing to the mix.
