The Dividing Line / Behind The Lines returns LIVE!!!!
« on: March 01, 2006, 06:38:19 pm »
Hello all!

Yes, you read the subject line right Ė Iím happy to announce that after 3 weeks shy of a year away from doing a live show, on Tuesday March 7th Behind The Lines will be returning live every single week!!!

Sadly, Mikebo of Strange Universe (http://www.thedividingline.com/su) has just started a new job and is not able to continue doing his show live.  However, if youíve become addicted to Strange Universe as I have, youíll be happy to know that Mike will continue to do his show on demand.  It will be available on the archives once per week Ė so those who canít get through their week without getting strange have no need to worry.

Fans of Behind The Lines will be happy to know that starting next week Iíll be returning to my previous slot (every Tuesday from 8pm to 11pm Pacific Time).  Itís strange really, the timing is eerie!  Tuesday the 7th is the FIRST Tuesday that my new schedule will come into effect.  With this new schedule Tuesday is the only day of the week that Iíll be getting off at 5pm which is early enough to get home, eat, and then do my show!  I then donít have to be at work until 11am the next day so I will have a huge amount of time to bring everyone an awesome show each week Ė not to forget the joyous GENESIS HOUAH!!  How perfect is that?

So in conclusion, I hope youíll all join me for my inaugural return this coming Tuesday!

Cheers,

Shawn

Hello all,

A heads up to all the IZZ fans out there - The Dividing Line is happy to offer a little treat for those who are feeling the wait for the newest IZZ album.  For those that missed it, last February Laura Meade, John Galgano, and Paul Bremner performed a DLBN exclusive webcast which brought the house down.

Iím happy to announce that after nearly 3 months of working on it, the newly mixed and mastered version of this event is now available on demand via the archives section of the DLBN website for all to enjoy!  This concert includes a plethora of songs both new and old, not to mention new versions of many IZZ songs youíve come to know and love.

The Dividing Line / Live Behind The Lines comes to an end!
« on: March 26, 2005, 02:12:53 pm »
Hey all,

After exactly 5 years of Behind The Lines live, life has made one of itís oh so revolutionary evolutions.  The other day I learned that I have been chosen to be included in the army in a revolution that has changed the very face of our planet as we know it.  This coming week I will hold my torch high as I take up arms against evil digital computer glitches of all shapes and sizes.  As a new employee of the city of Vancouverís tech support division Iíll be doing everything I can to make sure those horrid little critters donít kill us all in what could surely be a most painful and horrifying cyber-death.

One of the many results in the concussion wave of this new state of being is the fact that due to the hours of this new job, I wonít be able to continue Behind The Lines live any longer.  DOH!  But worry not, Iíll be crossing over into the land of pre-recorded archive bliss, so all those who have come to rely on their weekly Behind The Lines fix will not find your supply of musical joy in jeopardy.  As for those who love the live music, you have not been forgotten!  After over 2 months of having to pre-record his show, Alistair Henry will be temporarily taking over my Tuesday night live slot and will be bringing you Momentary Dementia Live (from 8pm to 10pm pacific time)!  So get those requests ready and be sure to check it out.  This will be the first time Alistair has been able to do his show live during a decent slot so get ready for the unexpected and the weird (cause it wouldnít be Momentary Dementia without the weirdness).

This coming Tuesday night will be my final live show for the foreseeable future so I look forward to saying goodbye and thanks to all the regulars who have made all my Tuesdays so enjoyable over the last while.  Figures, just when I get comfortable with a decent time slot I have to leave it, doh!  I hope many of you will still join me for Behind The Lines in archive form.

Hope to catch everyone one last time this Tuesday,

Shawn

The Dividing Line / Saturday Nights @ DLBN
« on: February 11, 2005, 03:00:46 am »
Hey all,

After some time spent showcasing all the broadcasting personalities every Saturday night, ďItís Your ShowĒ will be laid to rest until itís needed again.  Yep you guessed it, we now have a DJ who has agreed to take the Saturday night driverís seat!

This Saturday (February 12th 7pm Pacific Time) will be the last in the current run of the ďItís Your ShowĒ series.  It will be hosted by yours truly (The Bishie!!).  Join me either live or via archive as we take one step beyond the standard run of the mill tunes youíve come to expect and venture into the unknown.  This Saturday I plan to take a musical journey to the more well known parts of the spectrum.  Expect to hear the progressive side of some not so progressive bands as well as a plethora of other goodies youíd most likely forgotten about assuming you heard them to begin with.  But if this sounds like too much, worry not!  Youíll still be treated to all the prog classics youíve come to expect from The Bishie (thatís me).

If that all wasnít enough for you, hereís one last reason to tune in.  During this show I will be announcing the future host of Saturday Nights at DLBN!  Can you stand the anticipation?  If I didnít already know who the mystery person is, Iíd be quivering in a ball of jelly-like anticipation holding my hands together counting the seconds until the time of the announcement!

Hope to catch you all there,

Shawn

The Dividing Line / Special DLBN Live Event! (Feb 17th - 6pm Pacific)
« on: February 08, 2005, 12:42:35 am »
Hey all,

Iím happy to announce a great live event thatís planned for Thursday February 17th, 2005.  Here are some words from the guy thatís planned it, John Galgano from IZZ.

Join Brems, Laura and I live from Underground Studios on The Dividing Line Broadcast Network on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 6pm Pacific (9:00 p.m. ET)!

Back in June of 2004, Brems, Laura and I ended a nearly two year run of bi- monthly acoustic shows at Cafenani, a small cafe/bar in White Plains, NY. This was started as another vehicle for us to explore the music we love outside of the full band, but still within the IZZ family. The setlist was usually no holds barred - anything and everything was possible and on some nights, we'd play for 3-4 hours - all types of music: IZZ tunes, covers ranging from Genesis to Beatles to Tommy Tutone to Men at Work to Elvis Costello and of course, tunes that Brems, Laura and myself had written and wanted to play in front of a live audience before bringing them to the band. This is where Afraid to be Different and The Bar Song and My River Flows (which will be on the new album) were first played live - in front of a sometimes small, sometimes very large, but always appreciative audience. These shows became essential for us as musicians and in many ways, cathartic. In short, it was magic.

Cafenani has since closed its doors but we seem to have found a new home at the Cosi Coffee Shop in New Rochelle, NY. We've wanted to share this intimate, acoustic set with more people for a while now and we finally have our chance thanks to The Dividing Line Broadcast Network - always on the cutting edge bringing fan and musician closer than ever.

Please join us as we broadcast live from Underground Studios on Thursday, February 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET for two hours of acoustic (er, mostly acoustic) music. Brems, Laura and I have some cool things planned and we hope that the intimacy and the magic of our little acoustic gig somehow flows through the ether and into your computers. We'll play some IZZ, some covers, some solo tunes and maybe even a standard or two. So I hope you can take two hours out of your Thursday evening and tune in! Throw your requests in now! er...wait, I don't think we take requests...

Hope to see you all there!

The Dividing Line / New Special Guest DJ @ DLBN!
« on: January 19, 2005, 08:47:28 pm »
Hey folks,

Iím happy to announce that we have another special guest DJ joining the ranks of the DLBN broadcast team.  Steve Katsikas (keyboard player / vocalist / brainchild of the band Little Atlas) will be premiering his show entitled ďOrigins and FutureĒ on Saturday January 29th at 7pm pacific!  Heíll be featuring some of his favorite bands ďthat nobody has ever heard but should haveĒ.  Thereís no regular schedule as to when this show will air as Steve has varying commitments not only with his band, but also his work in the field of child psychology.  Keep an eye on the DLBN website within the next couple of days for further details.

Hope to see you all there,

Shawn

Artists & Music / What are you listening to today?
« on: January 05, 2005, 01:21:43 pm »
Thought this might be an interesting thread to start up.  What are you all listening to today and why?

Kaos Moon - The Circle Of Madness:[/u] Only just picked up the CD and so far have really been enjoying it.  It's prog with a fresh infusion of originality.

Matthew Good Band - Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts:[/u]  A favorite for over a year even though it was originally released in 1995.  This album has a great mixture of catchy riffs and passionate melodies, ahhhh.
