The Dividing Line / Show Replays
« on: December 26, 2004, 04:07:15 pm »
Hey all,

As I'm sure many have noticed, we've been having probs with show replays in the new OGG format recently.  For some reason I can't figure out at the moment, 90% of the time the station seems to lock up 2/3rds of the way through many of the replays of our OGG shows (randomly too which is never fun).  When this happens it creates a horrid sounding audio loop which makes throwing one's self off a bridge to one's death preferable to experience.  So, until our server admin and myself can find the bug, I've taken all the OGG show replays from the station's feed.  We'll try to get this fixed as soon as we can.  In the meantime, if you feel the urge to hear your favorite show in kickass high sound quality, they're always available on the show archives page!  Hopefully this minor glitch will be solved soon.

The Dividing Line / Archived Show Upgrades
« on: December 08, 2004, 12:19:55 am »
Hey all,

As most of you know, we're currently in the process of upgrading from RealAudio to a high sound quality OGG stream.  A lot of you have commented that with the new system it's impossible to skip through the archives when streaming off the server.  Since this has caused many people much sadness, Bishie the tech guy has come to the rescue (awww yeah!!!)  On the archives page you now have the option to either "Stream" the show (which until now was the only option available) or "Download" the show.  The download option will allow you to save the show onto your computer where you are fully able to skip around to your hearts content!  Feel the joy!!!

Hope this helps!

The Dividing Line / Dangerously Awake with John Galgano
« on: October 04, 2004, 01:03:35 pm »
Hey all,

For those that haven't already heard, I'm happy to announce the birth of a brand new special series on The Dividing Line.  Starting in less than a week's time DLBN will be bringing you new shows hosted by various artists who have been making significant contributions to the progressive rock genre.  Conceived by our own Alistair Henry (Momentary Dementia), this series will feature monthly shows from each of these artists which will be an exploration of his or her own musical influences when writing their own material.

The first of these shows we're bringing you will be hosted by none other than... yep you guessed it... John Galgano from IZZ!  DLBN is very happy to welcome John to our team of DJs.  His monthly show entitled "Dangerously Awake with John Galgano" will air the first Thursday of every month from 6pm to 8pm pacific time.  Here are some words from John on the show:

"At its best, music stirs the soul, awakens the mind and softens the heart.
Different types of music do different things for different people. On this show, we will celebrate the diversity of music - music for the soul. My biggest fear in life is that even if I live to be a hundred, I won't have time to discover all of the amazing music that's out there. I hope this show, in some small way, will allow each of us to discover something new and perhaps allow all of us to become dangerously awake."

IZZ fans will definitely want to check this out as I know John has some very cool stuff planned.  Expect the unexpected (and maybe even unreleased).  So mark it down, Thursday October 7th, from 6pm to 8pm pacific time, Dangerously Awake with John Galgano!

We're currently in the process of getting more highly regarded artists set up to do their own shows, so as soon as we have the word, I'll be posting about their shows also.  Thanks all and hope to catch everyone on Thursday night!

Take it easy,

The Dividing Line / Behind The Lines with The Bishie - Back In Action!
« on: September 19, 2004, 08:45:08 pm »
Hey folks,
Well I'm very happy to say that after 2 weeks of being out of commission I have returned and the PC is working once again!  Thanks to Alistair and Mikebo for covering my Behind The Lines butt during the sad and desolate time of my absence.  But that dark time is now over and I'm now back to give you guys your musical fix this coming Tuesday evening.  So, I hope to catch you all this week either live or via the archive.  I've got a bunch of cool stuff lined up as well as various rants and comments about everything under the sun.

Catch everyone soon,

The Dividing Line / "Bishie go bye bye"
« on: September 08, 2004, 12:19:22 am »
Hey folks,

Haven't been around for a couple of days and may continue to be in limbo land for quite some time.  Unfortunately for me, my motherboard decided it would pick this moment in time to fry (I can only assume that's what the deal is anyways).  Since I absolutely suck with it comes to hardware, I rely heavily on my rediculously smart computer friend to solve all my hardware woes.  That's all well and good except for the fact that he's away visiting his girlfriend doing things I'd rather be doing, but that's another story all together.

Basically this means I'm stuck until he returns, which (if he follows the pattern) could be up to 3 weeks time.  Since there's no way for me to reach him where he is now, I have no way to know if he'll be back tomorrow or towards the end of September.  I'm hopin' it's sooner rather than later but what can ya do.

I did a show this week with Alistair which acted as both his and my show for the week.  Enjoy the 'tom-foolery' as they say.  If I'm still not around by next Tuesday I'll make sure something is planned to give you all your musical fix!

For now, I can check my email and log onto the message boards from other working machines, so if you need to get a hold of me for any reason I am not totally gone.

So, I shall see you all soon I hope, until then I'll continue spending a lot more time in this strange place called 'outside' which seems to go on for an awfuly long ways!  ;)

Take it easy,

The Bishie

Off-Topic Talk / MOVED: What was your last CD purchase?

I moved this topic to the Artists & Music area as it's not really off topic.

Off-Topic Talk / Posting Topics
« on: September 01, 2004, 08:19:24 pm »
Hey folks,

Just wondering if we can hold back from posting jokes etc on here.  I know this is the off topic area, but there are so many jokes going around in emails etc that I don't think we need anymore. :)  I think it's best to stick to discussions.  If anyone feels jokes & other things should be included then let me know and I'll make a new area for them so only people who want to see them end up reading them.

The Dividing Line / Epic Prog with The Bishie!
« on: August 28, 2004, 12:03:49 pm »
Hey all,

Well this week I had the pleasure of standing in for The Lurker and playing some of my all time favorite epics, gotta love that!  Since this was the last show of the month that means it was time for Epic Concepts!  I decided to feature the concept "I Move" from IZZ since I don't think anyone has played the entire album on the station before, plus it's a great concept album as a whole.  Check out this week's archive of Epic Prog (with The Bishie) to be epified beyond your wildest dreams!

The Dividing Line / Ray Wilson on Behind The Lines - 08/03/04
« on: August 03, 2004, 12:08:25 am »
Hey all,

On the next Behind The Lines I'll be airing the interview I did with Ray Wilson.  Ray was a pleasure to speak with and a lot of interesting topics were covered so be sure to catch it!  The special includes a lengthy interview as well as various tracks from throughout his career.  This is a particularly cool special to be able to broadcast as this is my first (hopefully of many) ex members of Genesis to get a chance to really talk to.  Catch the show at 8pm pacific Tuesday Aug 3rd or via the show archive.

Due to unforeseen circumstances I won't be able to air the show live as I have been called to help lift more heavy musical gear to our new band rehearsal facility.  But, since this is a prerecorded interview it won't make much difference if it's played live or not. ;)

Hour 3 of this show will feature "The Mighty Megamedley!" performed by Genesis!  This is a mixture of live tracks which I edited together nearly 4 years ago to form one long live Genesis medley.  It's the medley that every fan wishes Genesis played live but never did.  This mixture features all the best progressive sections the band wrote throughout their existence.  If you're a G fan you will most definitely enjoy it.  I hope you all enjoy this BTL special event!

The Dividing Line / 2 New Shows at DLBN!
« on: July 27, 2004, 04:25:09 pm »
Hey all,

I'm happy to welcome two new show to this ever growing team of DJs here at DLBN.  First we have Vince and Daisy Jane Font bringing you Schizopolis (hope I spelled that one right) :) every Monday from 10pm to 1am Pacific (immediately following Guilty Pleasures with Gruno).  Here are some words from Vince about the show

"From prog-rock to post-rock, from ambient to acoustic, our show will boast a wide range of styles and artists (from genre superstars to indie icons and unsigned acts). The emphasis on the expansion of the musical mind. Hosted by Vince and Daisy (husband and wife team)."

This one is not to be missed, their demo was freggin awesome!  Experience their greatness every Monday night!

Our second new arival, Adam See (also known as Close2TheEdge in chat) will be bringing you “Overnight Sensation” every Wednesday from 10pm to 1am Pacific (immediatley following The Lighter Side with Gary).  Coming live to you from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (YES MORE CANADIANS!), Adam will be adding a whole new direction and style to DLBN with his show.  Some words from Adam:

“Overnight Sensation will be very much a unique, fresh and new show on the DLBN.  It will focus mainly on Jazz, Blues, Swing, and Fusion music (with a few jazzy prog tunes thrown in for good measure).  Overnight Sensation will be divided into two sections over its’ three hour span - Hot and Cold.  The opening half of the show will feature steamy jazz and fusion music from the likes of John Coltrane to Frank Zappa to The Brain Setzer Orchestra!  The second half will be the time to cool down and relax with some smoother selections.  This part of the show would also be a great time to play some of the mellow prog greats such as Marillion and Pink Floyd.  But the jazz flavor will not be lost in this section either as Jaco Pastorius and Miles Davis will be common picks as well.  Another unique feature of Overnight Sensation will be the 'Musician Limelight' segment every show which will include a brief outline of an important and skilled musician.  Afterwards a song will be played showcasing the talent of that musician.  To any Zappa fans - this is your place as well.  Obviously the show title is very Zappa oriented and his work will be represented every show.  And don't worry - nothing graphic of his will be played, after all this is family programming!  Of course requests are very welcome.  Your DJ Adam See has a very large musical library and would be happy to play any tunes you want.  Along with the fresh tunes and segments, perhaps your DJ will try out his smooth operator voice as the night goes on and music cools down.  Overnight Sensation has indeed something for everyone and even if you don't like jazz, you probably will after three hours with yours truly.  I also hope to bring NEW fans to the DLBN because after all - what good is a great radio station without any fans?  It will be my goal to create an accessible, fun, and unique musical environment for all.”

So again, I’d like to welcome Vince, Daisy, and Adam to our team of DJs!  Let the music commence!

Take care all,

The Dividing Line / Ray Wilson on BTL - Tuesday Aug 3rd
« on: July 20, 2004, 01:03:12 am »
Hey folks,

If all goes according to plan, on Tuesday August 3rd I will be featuring an interview with Ray Wilson (formally of Stiltskin, Cut, and Genesis) on my weekly show, Behind The Lines.

Tuesday August 3rd: 8pm - 11pm Pacific Daylight Time @

I'm very much looking forward to having the chance to chat with Ray and covering as many topics as possible for the show.  So, if anyone has questions you'd like me to ask him please email me privately ( and I'll be happy to include your question when we talk.  This will be my first interview with one of the many ex members of Genesis so I'm understandably psyched!  The show will feature tracks from his newly released album entitled "The Next Best Thing" which you can purchase through the Amazon link on The Dividing Line website.  Please email me any questions you have ASAP so I can include them in the interview.

Take care and hope to see many of you on August 3rd!

The Dividing Line / Server Troubles
« on: July 12, 2004, 12:14:38 pm »
Hey folks,

Sorry for the server troubles this weekend.  We're still working frantically to figure out what it is that exactly happened.  The main problem is since the tech support at our co-location facility is only Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm, if we have a problem during the weekend we're pretty much screwed.  This is another reason we need to find a way to generate enough incoming funds to move to a better place.

We'll be working this afternoon to get everything reset and restarted in time for Gruno's show tonight.  More info as it becomes available.

Take it easy all,

Artists & Music / CalProg Finally Here!
« on: July 01, 2004, 09:16:45 am »
Woohoo... after many months of planning CalProg is finally here.  I'm currently sitting at my place waiting for Rene to arrive (which should be in the next 5 to 10 minutes) and I'm trying to remember if I forgot anything.  I always freak out trying to remember everything before hand and I always end up forgetting 'something'.  Doh... anyhow, really look forward to meeting you all there!!  Everyone should tune into Frans' show tonight as it will be a multi DJ fest!

See you all this weekend,
