Great news G!. Gruno's back, back on Mondays, back to normal... It's good to be back, isn'it it? Wheew, for a moment we thought you could be back back back ... gone!, but you're back, you're back... Ok, back to what I was doing back there...
Cheers
Jai

Well folks, this certainly has been an interesting weekend at the DLBN.  I hope everyone will come away from it unscathed and having learned something.  Here's what we have learned....

All this time we had ideas about what the strengths and weaknesses here at the station were.  Little did we realize that we, the management team, were the weakest link in the chain.  It took you shouting your message at us in the dozens for us to finally stop and listen.  We now realize how unfotunate it was that we were unable to see the other side of the coin.

I guess when you're in something so deep, it takes someone who is standing a few steps back to be able to see the full picture, to be able to get a better perspective.  For that reason we would like to send out our heartfelt gratitute to Papa Jim Harrel for playing the role of mediator and getting us in a positive dialogue with Gruno.  He was able to do the impossible and find an equitable middle ground.

We are very happy to announce that this kind of situation will never happen again.  To ensure this, here is what we are proposing to do differently:

A lot can get missed in an email.  We always felt it was the best means to communicate with our DJs due to different schedules, time zones, etc.  But it's so easy for points to get missed, for intentions to be taken out of context etc, we acknowledge that it isn't always the best medium.  So to that end, we thought it might be a good idea for the three of us to each take one third of our DJs and communicate with them directly one-on-one.  On any big decisions, and periodically along the way, we will take the communication to the highest level we can in this medium and talk on the phone - like normal people do :)

Each one of us will get into some sort of regular dialogue with the DJs in our group and in doing so, we will be able to get real feedback and hopefully generate new ideas for current and future situations.  It will hopefully crumble down the concept of faceless "management" and instead replace it with a spirit of real teamwork where everyone is kept in the loop and has input.

A few days ago we honestly thought we were done. We thought the station was on a steady nosedive that would be impossible to pull out of.  Now we feel the DLBN will actually be stronger because of it.  We need to tear away anything that is putting up roadblocks in our path.  Our concept of management is the first thing to go.  If there is anything you think we should do to meet this end, we would love to hear your ideas.

We appologize to everyone who were upset with us as we went through this.

Sincerely,
Shawn, Alistair and Rene

I think it's outstanding that you boys were able to work this out. Jim does deserve a ton of credit for mediating the whole thing - as always, Papa knows best!

PJ made the comment in chat the other night which summed up exactly what the DL was facing:
PapaJ: That's why there's so many tiny little stations. They weren't able to work through issues like this one.

What happened was a classic case of groupthink - the three of you in management have too much in common. Perhaps if you had a prog hater to serve in that leadership circle...   :P

I am now looking forward to watching the DL continue to grow.

No need for mea culpas- what's important is that everything has been ironed out in such a timely and positive fashion. In my short time here, I've discovered this to be a pretty special place, and I'm glad to know that everyone involved has the best interests of DLBN at heart. If this kind of insight and dedication is any kind of indication of how DLBN will continue to be run in the future, I envision great things ahead for for you and your crew. As I said in the other thread, you guys have truly proven yourselves to be a class act.
Now...let's get back to ROCKIN!
It looks just like a Telefunken U-47....

And isn't it good that 'we' aren't?  I was ready to walk away and I don't think I was alone there.  Communication is the key, not only between management and DJs, but also the listeners, because without them, there is no station.  It's great that you guys are looking at it from a different perspective now.  Thank you to the grand daddy of all things ancient for mediating this thing and providing a voice for change.

I just wanted to commend management for having the willingness to step back and reevaluate the way things were handled in this issue.  I'm glad that you guys listened to your audience and also were willing to work out a compromise.  Thanks also to PapaJ for mediating this whole thing.  Hopefully, things will proceed much more smoothly now.  As grinch said:  "Let's get back to rockin".

HALLELUJAH!  And PASS THE PROG (and Guilty Pleasures as well!)  This is GREAT!  Thanks guys, for taking the time to step back and look at this from another perspective!  Communication IS the key, and I'm very pleased this has been rediscovered! As ever hats off to the (not so) Ancient One, and Management for the willingness to work this out.  BACK TO THE MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Wow, how'd I miss all of this??   :)  I know I've been busy lately, but sheesh!

Anyway, I am glad Gruno is back.  I think he's a good guy, and his show is entertaining.  I understand management's concerns (makes me think of Carnivale), but I am glad they were able to come to an agreement!
